When Packaging Continues the Identity of an Exceptional Product – The Provincia Candle Project

We believe that packaging should be a continuation of the idea behind the product created by the client — a tangible reflection of its essence.
Our collaboration with Provincia, a brand that produces handmade beeswax candles resembling tree branches, became a perfect example of how packaging can simultaneously convey meaning, emotion, and form.
Provincia candles are not ordinary products. Each has its own unique shape — some bold and branched like antique candleholders, others slender and twisted like a magic wand found in a forest. These sculptural, poetic, and fragile candles are like works of art shaped by nature. Their packaging had to be equally thoughtful, distinctive, expressive of their character, and reliably protective.
We created three sizes of royal dark blue boxes, decorated with golden illustrations that echo the shape of each candle. The deep blue tone of the boxes beautifully contrasts with the golden color of the beeswax, while the matte, slightly rough surface of the box harmonizes perfectly with the overall design language. The use of only two colors in the design was a conscious minimalist decision that ensured not only cost-effective production, but also elevated the aesthetic, drawing attention to the distinctiveness of the product itself.
Beneath the visual beauty lies our engineering precision. Since the candles have irregular shapes, we developed unique, well-constructed protective inserts from corrugated cardboard for each one. These inserts not only protect the product during transport, but also give the box greater strength and weight — subtly enhancing the perception of quality. It's an invisible, yet crucial element.
The project was a true creative collaboration. Provincia brought a strong vision and defined the visual style of the packaging — their designer drew the candle illustrations and provided the initial concept. The MAZUS team contributed with practical guidance on construction, material and color selection, and handled all the print preparation, which required professionalism, technical expertise, and experience. Our mission was to deliver packaging that was not only impressive, but also cost-effective. We're proud that we succeeded.
The result — Provincia's candle packaging — is a remarkable trilogy of light, form, and paper.
